Deathloop is a first-person shooter (FPS) developed by Arkane Studios, known for titles like Dishonored and Prey, and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game follows the story of a unique pair of assassins locked in an eternal struggle, trying to break a never-ending time loop. Set in an alternate 1963 on the island of Blackreef, the game features a time anomaly that traps its inhabitants, including two assassins, Colt Vahn and Julianna Blake, in a perpetual loop. After each death or the passing of 24 hours, they return to the start of the same day.

While Julianna relishes the chaos of the loop, Colt, the protagonist, is determined to break free. To escape Blackreef, Colt must eliminate eight individuals known as the Visionaries, who maintain the cycle. However, these targets are elusive and spread across different locations, and Julianna will stop at nothing to thwart Colt’s plans.

Deathloop expands on the gameplay mechanics seen in Arkane's previous titles, such as Dishonored and Prey, focusing on player freedom and creativity in tackling challenges. Players can approach problems in multiple ways, and each death increases Colt's combat potential. The slowly acquired knowledge of NPC behaviors and relationships assists in executing the plan to eliminate all eight targets. The game doesn’t impose a strict order for completing objectives, whether main or side missions, but the time constraint of the daily loop remains a challenge. At the end of each cycle, Colt loses his gear by default, but players can use a resource called Residuum to permanently retain selected abilities, weapons, and upgrades.
