Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the fourth major installment in the popular cyberpunk RPG action series, developed by Eidos Montreal, the studio behind the previous two entries and the reboot of the cult classic Thief. The game is set in a dystopian future and continues the story from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The plot of Mankind Divided picks up in 2029, two years after the catastrophic events of the previous game, where a malfunction in the bio-augmentations caused millions of "enhanced" people to attack those without augmentations. This event led to a deep societal rift between augmented individuals and non-augmented people. The augmented are now forced to live in segregated ghettos, where crime is rampant, and law enforcement is oppressive. In this climate of social unrest, terrorist organizations advocating for the rights of the augmented begin to rise.
