Doom 64 is a re-release of the classic first-person shooter originally launched in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 console. In Doom 64, players take on the role of a lone hero battling against resurrected demons, revived by a mysterious entity on the moons of Mars, Phobos, and Deimos. The game's events unfold after the storyline of the first two Doom titles. Following the victories over the demonic forces on Mars and Earth, humanity decides to eradicate the remaining demon nests on Mars' moons by bombarding them with powerful explosives. However, the resulting radiation prevents them from verifying the success of the mission, allowing a mysterious being to survive and begin resurrecting the fallen hellspawn.

A group of soldiers is dispatched to deal with the threat, but they are quickly wiped out, leaving only the player character alive to face the demonic onslaught. The fate of humanity now rests on the player's shoulders as they strive to eliminate the demonic threat once and for all.

In Doom 64, the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game consists of thirty-two expansive, maze-like levels. As players navigate these levels, they must not only find keys and activate switches to unlock new areas but also fend off hordes of terrifying enemies. The arsenal of weapons available to the player is familiar from previous Doom titles, though their designs have been significantly updated—such as the chainsaw, which now features dual blades instead of one. A new weapon, the Laser (also known as the Unmaker), is introduced and shares ammunition with the iconic BFG 9000. As players progress, they can collect three ancient artifacts that greatly enhance the power of this devastating weapon.
