Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is a remastered and expanded version of the original Borderlands game, originally released in 2009. The remastering effort was a collaboration between the original developers, Gearbox Software, and Blind Squirrel Games. This edition includes all the DLC packs: The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution. It also features numerous technical enhancements and improvements to gameplay mechanics.

In Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, players are transported to the planet Pandora. The protagonists, known as Vault Hunters, traverse this hostile world in search of the mythical Vault. The Vault opens only once every two hundred years, and inside supposedly lie untold riches.
