Dishonored 2 is the sequel to the bestselling combination of stealth and action gameplay viewed from a first-person perspective, originally released in 2012. Like its predecessor, the game is set in a fictional world inspired by the Industrial Revolution, blending elements of magic and steampunk with the industrial aesthetics of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The story of Dishonored 2 unfolds 15 years after the events of the first game. Corvo Attano returns as the main protagonist, joined by Emily Kaldwin, the rightful heir to the imperial throne and Attano's daughter.

The narrative expands beyond the familiar city of Dunwall, the capital of the island empire ruled by the Kaldwin dynasty, taking players to the warm southern city of Karnaca, the seat of the Duke of Serkonos. The protagonists are forced to flee from Dunwall after Emily is cunningly dethroned by the witch Delilah, a character introduced in the DLCs for the original Dishonored. Upon arriving in Karnaca, they begin to unravel a web of conspirators and seek a way to restore Emily to the throne.

At the start of the game, players must choose whether to play as the young empress Emily or reprise the role of Corvo Attano, the protagonist from the first Dishonored. Although the overall storyline remains similar for both characters, the choice is significant as it determines which character gets imprisoned in Dunwall and cannot be played until a new campaign is started. Each character offers a slightly different gameplay experience due to their unique set of magical abilities and different dialogue options. This time, Corvo is voiced by Stephen Russell, best known for his role as Garrett in the early Thief series.
