Crypt of the NecroDancer is a unique independent game developed by the Canadian studio Brace Yourself Games. The game combines elements of roguelike RPGs and rhythm-based gameplay. Players assume the role of Cadence, a young girl searching for her missing father, Dorian. Her journey leads her to a mysterious crypt ruled by a demon known as the NecroDancer.

After falling into the crypt, Cadence is cursed by the NecroDancer, making her heart beat in sync with the rhythm of the music. To navigate this perilous dungeon and rescue her father, players must control Cadence as she dances to the beat, battling a variety of enemies, each with their unique patterns.

The game's innovative mechanics require players to move and attack in time with the music. Cadence can find or purchase weapons and spells to aid in her quest, but the core gameplay remains focused on rhythmic combat. Players must progress through procedurally generated levels filled with monsters, culminating in challenging boss battles. As a roguelike, the game features permadeath, adding to its challenge and replayability.
