Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third installment in the cRPG series that began with Dragon Age: Origins in 2009. Developed once again by BioWare in collaboration with Electronic Arts, this title marks a return to some of the elements that made the original game so beloved, while also retaining certain aspects from Dragon Age II and introducing new features. In response to fan feedback, the developers aimed to create a game that more closely resembled the first entry in the series, addressing many of the criticisms of the second game.

The game takes players back to the world of Thedas, which has been thrown into chaos after the events of the previous two titles. The story begins ten years after the conclusion of Dragon Age: Origins and a few months after Dragon Age II. The kingdom of Ferelden is still recovering from the Darkspawn invasion (known as the Blight), while the Orlais Empire is embroiled in a civil war. Across the continent, a conflict between Templars and mages rages on. Amid this turmoil, a breach between the mortal world and the parallel dimension known as the Fade occurs, leading to a demonic invasion. This new threat is confronted by the Inquisition, an independent political organization tasked with restoring order.
